The Marco Topo game in Hondarribia allows families travelling with children to admire the beauty of this medieval seaside town while enjoying playing together. The interactive treasure-hunt challenges reveal distinctive features of the colourful traditional architecture and the cobbled, walled streets of the old town. Playing with Marco Topo, you will see emblematic monuments such as Charles V Castle and the Church of Santa María de la Asunción y del Manzano. You will also walk along Kale Nagusia, the main street of the former walled town, and discover two of its historic gates: Santa María and San Nicolás. You will visit the Queen’s Bastion, built in the 16th century. This defensive structure reflects Hondarribia’s historical strategic importance and offers a glimpse into the city’s military past. Outside the walls, you will visit the Marina fishing district, a symbol of the town’s close relationship with fishing. There you will discover old buildings and the Fishermen’s Guild. Finally, the game introduces distinctive Hondarribia traditions such as its historical involvement in whaling, traditional rowing regattas, the Alarde parade and the role of the hatxeros, or sappers, who lead it.
