In Marco Topo’s Calatayud adventure, Marta and Marco are helped by Alfonso I the Battler and Saint Roch, who introduce the city’s heritage and the challenges players must complete to free the Flopis and finish the mission. With Roman and Arab roots, Calatayud was reconquered from the Muslims by Alfonso I the Battler in the 12th century, a milestone that shaped the history and growth of the town. It later received city status in recognition of its resistance during the War of the Two Peters, fought between King Peter IV of Aragon and King Peter I of Castile. Alongside these historical events, families playing Marco Topo in Calatayud will discover the city’s heritage. A highlight is the Collegiate Church of Santa María, whose apse, cloister and tower are among the six examples of Aragonese Mudéjar architecture included by UNESCO on the World Heritage List. The route also visits other important examples of Mudéjar art, such as the Tower of San Andrés and the Church of San Pedro de los Francos. It continues through the streets of Calatayud’s old Jewish quarter, stopping at places such as the former Main Synagogue and La Replaceta. Visits to the Casino, Plaza de España and the city’s viewpoints complete the adventure.
