The Marco Topo adventure in Écija is a challenge-based route that works as an interactive treasure hunt, allowing families to discover the main monuments of this important town in the Seville countryside. Known as the City of the Sun because of its warm climate and the City of Towers because of the number and architectural importance of the parish and convent towers that shape its skyline, Écija preserves one of Andalusia’s finest Baroque legacies. Playing with Marco Topo, you will discover splendid 18th-century palaces, churches and convents such as Benamejí Palace, Palma Palace, the Church of Santiago, the Church of San Juan, the Church of Santa María and the Convent of Santa Florentina. You will also walk through typical Andalusian streets and visit emblematic places such as Plaza de España, popularly known as El Salón, and San Pablo Park, the city’s main green space on the banks of the River Genil. The adventure also highlights the important role Écija played in Roman times. Marco Topo, dressed as a Roman, introduces archaeological finds from Roman Écija, then known as Astigi. The city became especially rich and powerful in the 2nd century AD thanks to its leading role in olive-oil production and trade across the Roman Empire. Important treasures from this period survive, including a pool, magnificent mosaics and the Wounded Amazon, an exceptional sculpture of international importance that can be admired in the Municipal History Museum.
